This 1950s Nunawading red brick was copping constant traffic noise and drafts through its original timber double-hungs, so we replaced all 17 openings across both levels with Hamptons-style uPVC double glazing, including mock sash horns, Georgian bars and laminated glass, to deliver a quieter, more secure home that looks as good as it performs.

Hannah’s home on Junction Road in Nunawading started life as a standard 1950s red brick house on one of the area’s busiest main roads. The original timber double-hung windows were drafty, poorly insulating and offered limited security for a young family. As the home underwent a full renovation and upper-level extension to create a modern Hamptons-inspired residence, the old windows couldn’t deliver the performance or the look that the new design demanded.
Hannah had renovated multiple properties before, but this was the first designed as a long-term family home, and she wanted the windows to match that commitment. Nu-Eco was brought in to handle all 17 openings across both levels as a single coordinated scope.
The street-facing façade features mock double-hung windows with decorative sash horns and 25mm Georgian bars in laminated glass, replicating the proportions of traditional double-hung windows while delivering modern acoustic and thermal performance. The rear extension opens through tilt and turn windows and a two-panel sliding patio door, and the upper level is fitted with casement windows throughout. Privacy glass was specified for the bathroom, powder room and sitting room.
The result is a home that looks and performs exactly as the Hamptons-inspired design intended. Hannah describes herself as “absolutely obsessed” with the outcome. The windows block out everything from the busy road, and passersby have stopped specifically to comment on how good they look.
The main changes: dropped the clunky “Before/After” labels, folded the context into a natural narrative flow like the Allen example, kept the first paragraph as the hook with enough detail to earn the click, and let the read more section walk through the spec and the result.

The project needed to be staged across two phases to align with the renovation and extension build programme.
Hannah had renovated multiple properties before, but this was the first designed as a long-term family home — not for resale. That meant prioritising quality, performance and daily livability over short-term cost savings. Key priorities were blocking traffic noise from Junction Road, improving thermal comfort year-round, increasing security for a young family, and achieving a heritage-inspired aesthetic that matched the upgraded architectural style. She compared timber double-glazed options through her builder but found they didn’t deliver the same level of performance or long-term durability she was looking for.
Nu-Eco delivered 17 UPVC frames across two stages. Stage one fitted mock double-hung windows with decorative sash horns and 25mm Georgian bars in laminated Low-E glass to the front bedrooms, plus a two-panel sliding patio door with gold handles to the living room. Stage two completed the upper-level extension with tilt and turn windows in the kitchen, dining and living areas, casement windows with laminated glass in three bedrooms, and privacy glass in the bathroom, powder room and sitting room. White Ovolo-profile frames were used throughout to maintain the Hamptons character, with chamfered profiles where the design required. The result is a home that blocks out everything from the busy road, stays comfortable year-round, and has become a standout in the Nunawading streetscape — with the windows themselves drawing compliments from passersby.
